Beyoncé gave birth to her daughter Blue Ivy Carter and since the announcement rumors have been flying about the peculiar name. The latest rumor is that Jay-Z named the his firstborn after his ex-girlfriend, Blu Cantrell. Would he really do that?
It's reported that Jay-Z was really in love with Blu back in the day, before he and Beyoncé got together. However, she ended their relationship in 2002, leaving Jay-Z devastated. He then met Beyoncé and they hit it off, dated and eventually got married.
Now that hip hop's royal couple has had their first baby, it seems kind of strange that they would include Blue since it is the name of Jay's ex. However, he did name his album "Blueprint" and Blue does have other meanings too—many of which are very spiritual.
So, it seems more likely that Jay-Z and Beyoncé named the baby Blue Ivy Carter because the name meant something to them, not because they wanted to be reminded of a relationship past.
