Twinkies maker Hostess, Inc. is in trouble, and the snack cake maker has filed for bankruptcy. This delicious treat is iconic and recognizable throughout the nation, but even so, that has not stopped its maker from having serious financial difficulties.
In addition to Twinkies, Hostess, Inc. also produces CupCakes, Ding Dongs, Mini Muffins and other snack cakes and cookies that many Americans grew up eating. In 2009, the company emerged from bankruptcy, and since then, the privately held Texas company holds $860 million in debt.
Could Hostess's problems actually mean that the U.S. is curbing its snack food addiction? If so, that is actually good news for health. Perhaps, the snack food maker is going to have to revamp their business plan. Two bankruptcies in just a few years is an awful lot. They will still produce Twinkies and other snacks during their bankruptcy, so no need to make a run on the stores.
Perhaps Hostess, Inc. needs to offer some other, healthier options. They could possibly rework their recipes to make a healthier treat as well. Of course, when it comes down to it, they are still making snack cakes.
