The Golshifteh Farahani pictures depicting the Iranian actress in Madame Le Figaro magazine continue to be scrutinized. Recently, the nude photo of the former Body of Lies co-star were chastised by an Iranian news agency which made some interesting accusations against Hollywood.
This Golshifteh Farahani nudity issue has caused plenty of controversy for the actress who once starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. According to a report from UK's Telegraph, an Iranian news agency thinks that is the exact problem. The fact that Farahani has been influenced by Hollywood caused her to auction "her modesty and honour in front of the Western cameras."
Farahani left Iran just last year as part of her personal protest against their "restrictive Islamic codes." Those include codes the Iranian cinema industry must follow, which Hollywood obviously doesn't. To up the ante for her protest, Farahani chose to appear topless in a black and white photo, with her hands covering her breasts.
The Iranian Far News agency has stated:
"It was first assumed that this might be yet another plot by the enemy but the disaster dawned when she herself published her nude photo on her Facebook page.
By doing so she has now diminished whatever popularity of her that had remained in Iran. It seems that her action is a short film and in line with the Western plots to challenge the Islamic Awakening movement that is sweeping the region."
The choice of words by the news agency is interesting here, because at first it seems to claim Hollywood is responsible for Farahani's naked protest. However, they ultimately are admitting that she has the freedom to do what she wants, including posing naked. Still, they seem to be accusing Western culture and Hollywood of making someone think a certain way. Isn't it possible that other women in Iran think in a similar way, but just haven't spoken up or "exposed" their thoughts to the world? Should Farahani be concerned with her popularity in her homeland as opposed to the ability to do as she wishes?
