Ellen DeGeneres challenged First Lady Michelle Obama to a spur of the moment push-up contest. Obama was recording her visit to Ellen's show on Wednesday, promoting her campaign against childhood obesity, when the subject turned to workout routines.
According to a report from the New York Post, Ellen casually asked the First Lady which of the two of them she believed could do the most push-ups.
"I was just wondering if you can do more push-ups than I can?" DeGeneres asked.
Michelle Obama immediately dropped to the floor, and the contest was on.
54-year-old DeGeneres started having a bit of trouble when she reached the 15 push-up mark, but she managed to make it all the way to 20. She surrendered as gracefully as possibly at that point. Michelle Obama, who is 48, went on to do 25 push-ups, but very clearly appeared as though she probably could have done many more.
"That was amazing!" Ellen DeGeneres told the audience and the First Lady, clearly impressed with the good physical shape that Michelle Obama is in. She has long been lauded for her very fit and toned arms, which may actually be a product of those push-ups!
If you fear you missed the push-up contest between Ellen DeGeneres and Michelle Obama because you missed today's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, think again. It was only recorded on Wednesday. The actual episode airs on Thursday.
