A recent report from MTV sheds light on other celebrities who have infamously flipped people off as part of their performance or photographed events. Included in that group are Johnny Cash, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Eminem. Much like NBC apologized for the incident caused during their TV moment, JB apologized for his middle finger moment. Bieber said after the occurrence, "I know better than to react in anger." MIA was just doing it to do it.
However, MTV says "tossing up the middle-digit salute is a time-honored tradition for musicians that dates back more than 40 years to the original rock rebel."
It's also something that happens in everyday life in road rage or other driving situations on the streets. The middle finger, albeit a crude sign and disrespectful, has been something that takes place on a daily basis. Whether or not it's right is another question. However, many viewers who simply watched the halftime show may not even have noticed the MIA middle finger incident. Once the media brings it up, it's certainly a big deal and will be replayed over and over again. The unfortunate aspect is that it's overshadowing one great football game.
Did you notice MIA's middle finger during Madonna's Super Bowl 2012 halftime show? Was it a big deal or not so much?
