Newlyweds and Bollywood darlings Ritesh and Genelia got married over the weekend with ceremonies in both the Maharashtrian and Christian tradition, and now the news has hit that the couple will not take a honeymoon. Cricket comes first.
The couple did leave for a trip after their weekend nuptials, but it was not for pleasure. Ritesh Deshmukh, who serves as the vice captain of Mumbai Heroes, and his new bride went to Vizag for a Celebrity Cricket League match.
Are you surprised that cricket obligations come before a honeymoon for Ritesh and Genelia? To be fair, he is the vice captain of his CCL squad. The good news is, the Mumbai Heroes defeated the Bengal Tigers in the match, so it seems like Ritesh being on hand at the game must have helped. While they battled it out on the field, Genelia cheered from the stands waving her mehndi-stained hands and wearing her wedding bangles, which were remnants of her very recent wedding.
The newlywed was so thrilled with his squad's performance in the match that he took to Twitter to express his happiness. He tweeted, "Proud to be part of Mumbai Heroes -- whaattta win today. We enter the Semis now." How exciting for the entire team!
Upon their return to Mumbai, the couple is expected to move in to their flat in Juhu, which is a suburb of the city. Will they completely skip out on this newlywed rite of passage? Perhaps they are trying to keep their plans private. One thing is certain: they didn't leave right after their wedding. They went to play cricket instead.
