Miley Cyrus has seemingly survived the public backlash for plenty of stuff before. However, the former Hannah Montana star might have a hard time with some of her Christian fans after a recent religious tweet that has really ruffled the feathers of some fans.
As if the alleged pot smoking, risqué clothing choices, and underage drinking were not enough to get some of Miley Cyrus' more religious and conservative fans up-in-arms, now she comes out with this. One tweet of a photo of physicist Lawrence Krauss that said (among other things) to "forget Jesus" has got some fans really mad. Now, nearly a week later, the public backlash is continuing.
Where were these moral objectors when she was openly promoting drug use? Wherever they were, they were turning a blind eye to Miley's antics. One controversial tweet later and the venom against the singer is potent. For instance here is one fan's reaction to Miley's tweet:
So you are no longer a Christian? Forget Jesus??? Seriously? What has happened to you out there in the famous world? What????
Of course, Miley defended herself:
It makes me sad to think the world is this way. Like Einstein says Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.
So, as the backlash about religion and science has really drawn a strong reaction, it is still confusing why the same sort of reaction to far worse things isn't there. Clearly it is easy to ignore the "other stuff" or write it off to just being "young," but when it comes to making a philosophical statement, it strikes a nerve with many of her fans. Perhaps the backlash about the "Forget Jesus" tweet says less about Miley Cyrus and her beliefs and more about the expectations of her fans.
