Robert Pattinson doesn't think his Twilight character, Edward Cullen, would like his Bel Ami character, Georges Duroy. Edward is a gentleman—chivalrous and very concerned with how Bella Swan (played by Rob's real life girlfriend, Kristen Stewart) is faring.
According to a report from Flecking Records, the two characters are miles apart from each other.
"I guess there's something quite fun about Bel Ami, going from Edward to playing some guy who pretty much abuses women to get money out of them," Rob says. "Edward so wouldn't approve—and I thought that was a funny irony. But the story, independently, is great, so I only thought about the irony afterwards."
Rob has voiced his concern in recent weeks over whether he'll lose some of his Twilight fans if they see him playing Georges Duroy in Bel Ami. He truly believes that's a very strong consideration.
"He just doesn't have a conscience. He's content to do nothing and thinks everything should just be given to him. But if someone slights him, or directs any insult at him, the most overwhelming energy grabs him and he turns into this absolute devil," Robert Pattinson explains.
Does this make you want to see Bel Ami simply to see how different Georges Duroy is from Edward Cullen? Hopefully Rob's Twilight fans will at least give his latest film a shot. How will they ever know if they like Robert Pattinson the actor or just Rob in the role of Edward Cullen if they don't ever see him do anything else?
But if they really dislike his Bel Ami persona, they can take a little break—but not too long! Rob will be back as Edward Cullen one more time in November, when Breaking Dawn Part 2 debuts in theaters.
