Britney Spears is being courted by Simon Cowell to join the X Factor as a celebrity judge next season. The usually understated Cowell went so far as to say he would actually "love" Spears to join the show.
With ratings fading fast for the once popular program, Cowell obviously thinks that Spears's fans would bring the type of viewership numbers he needs to get back on top. While it remains to be seen just how incisive Britney's comments would prove to be when reviewing the musical contestants - she's not exactly the sharpest spear in the quiver - when compared to the similarly dimwitted Jennifer Lopez, you are sort of talking apples and oranges.
Cowell recently phoned in to TMZ Live and told them: "I would love to have her on the show ... I think she would be a fascinating person to sit next to."
Simon also said that he could not reveal too much about how the negotiations are going with Spears's camp, but did seem optimistic. An answer is expected from Britney Spears by the end of the week.
What do you think Britney should do? Is the X Factor/reality television really that far below her at this point, or would the show be a nice platform for her to get her music career back in high gear. While it has not exactly worked wonders for the likes of Paula Abdul and J-Lo, Spears is a bigger star than the former hosts, and would undoubtedly prove fun fodder for Simon to poke fun of during episodes.
