Kate Middleton and Prince William may have celebrated their own one-year wedding anniversary on April 29, but they actually spent their milestone weekend toasting the nuptials of another couple on Saturday at St. Andrews Church in Wingfield, England. Their good friends, Hannah Gillingham and Robert Carter, tied the knot in what appeared to be a delightful ceremony; one that the day's dreary weather couldn't even rain on.
But William and Kate did attract a shower of attention, despite perhaps their best intentions to lay low, as did Catherine's sister, Pippa Middleton. So did the blushing bride's gown, which looked remarkably, daresay suspiciously, similar to the Duchess of Cambridge's amazing stunner she donned a year ago, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
Kate Middleton, who shopped her closet for a demure lace dress by Erdem that she's been seen in before, obviously kept her style simple and sleek for her friend's wedding. But Pippa Middleton seemed a bit more keen to attract stares with a gold sequin frock and a fascinator covered in whimsical butterflies.
That said, William and Kate apparently managed to turn even more heads with their ironic entrance to the affair. "They sat close to the front of the church, so they had to walk down the aisle together to get there," said a source, according to Us Weekly. "It made a few people chuckle." Indeed, talk about a coincidence: the royal couple walking down an aisle again on the eve of their own anniversary!
Another interesting coincidence? Gillingham's gown. She must have been royally influenced by Kate Middleton's monumental dress, as hers seemed to almost be a copycat version. It featured the same lace detail on the bodice and the long sleeves. And it also had a similar sweetheart neckline.
The resemblance was really quite uncanny, as can be seen via the photo posted on Daily Mail. While the Duchess' dress obviously inspired many a knockoff, it is rather unusual to see such a blatant display of similarity by a bride so closely connected to the "original" wearer of that statement-making gown. Maybe the bride thought no one would notice?!
Talk about déjà vu for Kate--on many levels!
