Times have changed a great deal for Robert Downey, Jr. (RDJ). The former troubled star is riding high on the crest of a huge career wave. More than that, however, he's enjoying personal success as well. He's the proud papa of baby son Exton.
RDJ joined Jay Leno on Tonight to talk about his latest Iron Man role in The Avengers. While the actor is proud of the comic book character he's brought to life, he's even more prouder of another life. One that he made with wife Susan. That's their baby son.
When Leno asked if he wanted to share a picture of the tot with the audience, at first RDJ declined saying, "I would get in huge trouble." He went on to add, "I want to, but I have to exercise a little restraint...." While the TV host tried to explain he understood, RDJ whipped out a picture of Susan and Exton.
"You get one (picture), that's it," he teased. "Unless of course you want to see the other one," he chided before breaking it out as well. To see a picture of Exton on his own, click here. "He's so darn cute, isn't he?" gushed the proud daddy.
Robert Downey, Jr. didn't let his baby bragging end there. He brought his son up again while visiting with Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime show, Ellen. "He's smiling and talking a little bit," cooed RDJ.
DeGeneres, of course, called him on the talking bit, given that the baby is just three months old. "He's not talking," Ellen laughed.
RDJ responded, "well, I mean, you know. I think he is." He went on to explain that his son seems to respond to him when he asks him things. In other word, he makes typical baby noises. To a parent, that's communication and who is anyone to disagree?
It's obvious that the Iron Man has a soft spot for his son. He's never looked better or acted happier. He's living proof to the Lindsay Lohans of the world, that there is life on the other side of massive screw-ups. All it takes is a willingness to change and hope for a better tomorrow. If anyone deserves happiness after working his way through hell, it's Robert Downey, Jr.
