Robert Pattinson and his girlfriend, Kristen Stewart, arguably have made the whole vampire thing quite hot. Just ask any Twi-hard. The blockbuster Twilight Saga has only grown in popularity (and hotness factor!), especially with the final Breaking Dawn installments and all those intense love scenes. Not that Edward Cullen doesn't have some fellow hunk-star competition, especially with Ian Somerhalder and his sidekick, Nina Dobrev, from hit CW TV show, The Vampire Diaries. And, sure, there were those handsome heart-throbs Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise who put on the fangs back in the day. But, now, there's another actor who's staking his claim on the vampire turf--and he might just be insulting Pattinson, while he's at it!
Johnny Depp is starring in Tim Burton's latest flick, Dark Shadows, and he may just be out for blood! "There's room for two vampires on this block--as long as [Robert Pattinson] remembers I am the Alpha Vampire," Depp, 48, boasted at the film's London première, as Us Weekly reports. Those are fighting words! Depp was, of course, probably hurling the jab all in good fun. He perhaps should have said "three vampires," though, what with Stewart in the mix. But, his eye is firmly on Pattinson!
That aside, Depp's comment does bring up the question of whether his character, Barnabas Collins, even has a chance of defeating Pattinson's Edward Cullen at the box office--and with fans. Depp certainly won't win on looks alone, as his Collins role has him channeling a strange, sinister and eerie look that's kind of become his (and Burton's) signature. Pattinson, 25, of course plays a far more handsome--and normal-looking--vampire.
Johnny Depp apparently has long wanted to vamp it up, as he also told Us Weekly that the part in Dark Shadows was "a big one" for him. However, his role might just be lacking one major thing that both hot-shots Robert Pattinson and Ian Somerhalder have--an on-screen and off-screen girl in Kristen Stewart and Nina Dobrev, respectively. Those relationships just add sizzle, no matter who finds himself the "Alpha Vampire."
