Kim Kardashian and her sisters Khloe and the currently pregnant Kourtney have a reputation for dressing to impress--regardless if they are stepping out for lunch in Los Angeles, making a public appearance for their Kardashian Kollection clothing line or filming segments for their Keeping up with the Kardashians show. And the sartorial story has been no different for Kim in London, where she's promoting her new fragrance and also QuickTrim, a diet pill for which she and her sisters serve as spokesmodels. Despite the divorce drama with Kris Humphries, she also seems to be promoting her new relationship with Kanye West while she's across the pond, as she's frequently been seen on his arm. But did she recently take her style down a notch so as not to outshine him?
She's been in sexy red lace, sultry asymmetrical black with mesh cut-outs and a chic white, figure-hugging number for her numerous appearances in London--many with West. But Kim Kardashian selected a rather demure (for her!) black dress, covered by a long coat, to attend his Watch the Throne show at the O2 Arena. The most statement-making element was her shoes: rapper-inspired gold chain stilettos, no doubt a tribute to her entertainer beau.
Daily Mail suggests that Kim opted for the more conservative look so as not to draw too much attention away from Kanye West during his big performance night. And that could certainly be true.
It's common for star couples to try to fairly share the spotlight. In fact, Robert Pattinson kind of just did so, when he skipped out on making a red-carpet showing for his girlfriend Kristen Stewart's Snow White and the Huntsman premiere, knowing it would take attention away from her and her new film.
The uneven star power and unequally shared fame game is a problem that may have manifested itself in Kim Kardashian's failed relationship with basketball pro Kris Humphries, who perhaps was always cast in the shadow of her spotlight. Of course, Kanye West is a bit of a different case, given he's far more famous than Humphries initially was. But, still, maybe the reality show diva is making sure it doesn't happen again. Then again, maybe her outfit was just that--another ensemble for another day!
