Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has become a world-wide fashion icon since her marriage to Britain's Prince William a year ago April, and Christian Louboutin, French shoe designer and a fashion icon himself, has nothing but praise for her. This is in spite of the fact that she seldom if ever wears a pair of his sky-high, red-soled shoes. She is a very elegant young woman, and she has no need for high fashion, he says and Metro reports.
"I wouldn't give her any advice," the shoe king dishes to the UK edition of Vogue. "She doesn't need it. Let her choose for herself." This is in response, of course, to the occasional snipes and jibes heard from other fashion leaders, that Kate Middleton has a somewhat boring style. Ordinary. Non-risk-taking. And those who design and sell expensive clothing tend to look askance at Duchess Catherine's easy mixture of design and off the rack. But her fans among ordinary women love it. The prince also seems to love it. And who matters more to Kate Middleton?
In addition, Duchess Catherine is very conscious of her role as a royal, and her obligation to "Buy British." Most of the time, she does. That's ok with Christian Louboutin. He suggests everyone simply leave her alone to do her own thing, because Kate Middleton "is a big girl now." He'll just keep making shoes for Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, and the Hollywood set. Everything works out.
