Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart have been dating for around seven months. Since they got together, she's started giving him an allowance ($10,000 a week!), she got him his own reality show on Oxygen, he has supposedly been promoted to "head choreographer" for her upcoming tour, and he is giving her business advice. And now he wants to be her manager, too.
According to The National Enquirer (via Celebitchy.com), there is "a bitter tug of war between Casper" and JLo's actual manager, Benny Medina, which came to a head after a recent meeting the three had with Fox execs regarding American Idol.
"The meeting was a disaster," a "source" dishes to the mag. "This 25-year-old kid was telling executives that Jennifer did not need Idol, that Idol needed her and 'they' were thinking about heading in a different career direction. Benny almost blew a gasket. After the meeting, he and Casper had a huge screaming match with Benny telling Casper that he's nothing more than a gold-digging backup dancer."
It's totally unbelievable that Jennifer actually took Casper to a business meeting. There's a reason "never mix business with pleasure" is common advice. Talk about unprofessional! After that stunt, it's easy to imagine that Fox will opt not to bring JLo back to Idol—which is the only reason she's remotely relevant again, so Casper probably totally screwed her. And she might have an inkling that letting a backup dancer take over her business affairs is a bad idea.
"Casper would love for Jennifer to fire Benny and hire him as her business manager, but Jennifer is torn," The Enquirer's source says. "While she loves Casper, she realizes Benny knows what's best for her professionally."
Jennifer would be really stupid to fire Benny. The most professional success she had was in the late '90s and early '00s, when he was her manager. After they split in 2003, her career languished for a few years. And now that they're working together again, she has more hit singles, is on the country's top-rated show and was recently named Forbes' most powerful celebrity. Keeping Benny as her manager and telling Casper to stick to dancing should be a no-brainer, but JLo isn't really known for being smart when it comes to love, so you never know.
What do you think? Should Jennifer Lopez keep Benny Medina as her manager? Should she let Casper Smart have the job? Sound off in the comments!
