Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart arguably owe a lot to The Twilight Saga: their romantic relationship; their screaming fans; their current blockbuster popularity; their sizable bank accounts; and even the roles they've landed since starring as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. While Twi-hards may always see Pattinson and Stewart as their vampire characters, these two actors will and have moved on--he's currently in Cosmopolis and she's making waves in Snow White and the Huntsman. But is Robsten insulting the movie series that seems to have kind of made them who they are today--both professionally and even personally?!
They've been accused of it before, with a few offbeat comments that could be construed as condescending towards Twilight. And, it has happened again... Robert Pattinson recently admitted of the vampire saga in a new interview, "I used to think it was a good thing to have a safety net. [But] to know you're always safe is not real. It's got to matter."
Hollywood Life picked up on this comment and cried foul. But was Pattinson really talking disrespectfully about his Cullen character? It sounds more like he was just sharing his strategy for his future film career goals. Twilight was a sort of "safe" place for awhile, as the actor was assured of five flicks to keep him busy. Now he has to seek out more projects that "matter" to him.
In fact, it sounds like he already has. He later admitted in the interview that he has "five things going, actually six." One of those is Mission: Blacklist. Of that movie, he revealed, "It's really complicated to explain. I seem to like choosing movies lately that are difficult to promote."
Well, Pattinson won't have that problem come November when Breaking Dawn: Part Two premieres!
As for Kristen Stewart, she recently also semi-shrugged off Twilight when she said she wanted The Hunger Games to win Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night, as Hollywood Life reports. But, hey, what's wrong with her spreading the love around to other major film franchises?! She and her guy have taken home the trophy before, not to mention Pattinson reportedly won't even be there to reenact the smooch should they score the win again.
