Former Family Feud host Richard Dawson has died at the age of 79 from esophageal cancer. He passed away Saturday, June 2nd, in the presence of family members.
According to a report from Hollywood Life, son Gary Dawson announced his passing
on Facebook.
"It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my father passed away this evening from complications due to esophageal cancer," he wrote. "He was surrounded by his family. He was an amazing talent, a loving husband, a great dad, and a doting grandfather. He will be missed but always remembered..."
Richard Dawson hosted the game show The Family Feud from 1976 to 1985 and again from 1994 to 1995. The show is presently hosted by comedian Steve Harvey.
Condolences are likely pouring in from near and far to the family of Richard Dawson. He was a television icon--having acted for years prior to his stint on The Family Feud. He will long be remembered for his charm, quit wit and sense of humor.
