Kate Middleton has cemented her status as a veritable style icon; one whose classic and sophisticated, yet still fashion forward, sartorial choices are informing trends and tastes not only in Europe, but also for royal watchers in the U.S. While it's not unusual to see the Duchess of Cambridge recycle and re-wear prior ensembles (in fact, that down-to-earth deed is quite refreshing!), it may be a bit strange to see Prince William's wife in a dress previously donned by another bold name who is nearly a complete opposite from Middleton: Kim Kardashian!
Kardashian may be reality show royalty and she even hosted her own stateside royal wedding of sorts last year, what with her extravagant and glamorous, over-the-top to-do with her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Kris Humphries, but one typically does not equate Kim with Kate, especially not on the sartorial playing field. Kardashian trends toward sexy and sometimes pretty revealing statements (seemingly even more so now, with new boy Kanye West perhaps informing her selections), but still manages to maintain an air of sophistication. Middleton often walks a more demure and conservative, but still ultra-chic, fashion line.
However, it seems both girls may still share similar fashion tastes, at least on occasion! (It just goes to show that a good design can transcend some pretty different style personalities.)
For her recent appearance on the barge at the Queen's Jubilee pageant, Kate Middleton was positively ravishing in a red, long-sleeve and knee-length peplum frock by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen—a piece picked from the spring 2011 collection. She paired it with nude LK Bennett pumps and a fascinator in the same crimson color, which was accented with an artsy floral array.
While one's eyes may deceive him or her, given how different the dress looked on Kim Kardashian, it really was the same frock, which she wore last August during a night out in NYC, as Daily Mail reports. However, Kardashian opted to wear the dress sleeveless and super-short, as it was originally shown on the runway. She also rocked an edgy necklace and a huge cocktail ring. And to complete the leggy look? Forget nude pumps! Kardashian pulled out platform snakeskin stilettos.
It's really hard to compare these ladies in red, as they interpreted the same dress so differently. The design really translates nicely on both of them and directly reflects their personal style.
That aside, the reality show queen has been spending some time in London of late recently with Kanye West, and is rumored to perhaps even be working on a potential reality show across the pond. So, Kate Middleton may have another fashionista flitting around soon. Will there be more "copycat" moments in store?!
