A few months ago, I took my two obsessive daughters to see Selena Gomez live for the first time. For the past year, my 10 year old and 4 year old have been singing her songs all around the house, so I decided to let them see her as a gift. When we arrived we were all very excited. I knew how great Selena is and I couldn’t wait to see my daughter’s faces when they saw her perform on stage. I was wrong. When Selena started singing, it was atrocious! She didn’t sing anything like her in the music videos or on her album. Also, her outfits were way too revealing. She wore a bra top while singing “Falling Down” and very low neck dress that showed a lot of cleavage. After the concert, my 10 year old asked me to never take her to another one of Selena’s concerts, but my 4 year old mostly just enjoyed the dancing. I decided to forget about the show until I went shopping with my 4 year old to TJ Maxx. We past the lingerie aisle, my daughter wanted to buy a bralet she stated her reason was “Because Selena Gomez wears it.” Why would she wear these things on stage?! I know she is 19, I know she’s a woman but she’s performing in front of little children for God’s sake. How can she be a role-model?
My daughters have grown out of their Selena Gomez phase and we recently just went to Demi Lovato’s concert, she was amazing at singing! She wore very appropriate clothing and we now are watching her on X Factor! My kids love her, what a great role model. Next year they’re going to go see Taylor Swift, hopefully it’ll be as good as their Demi experience.
