Charlize Theron, well known for her beauty - and, subsequently, her bouncing blonde locks - debuted a new hairdo for the summer, when the paparazzi photographed her with a shocking new look: a shaved head!
Theron, who most recently played the part of the Queen in the highly anticipated Snow White and the Huntsman, has been spotted several times recently sporting some type of hat on her head, and a new photo snapped Monday makes her buzz cut obvious, explaining just why she's taken to beanies and fedoras of late! Her rep has confirmed the new 'do, stating that Charlize Theron "shaved her head last week" in anticipation of her role as Furiosa in the upcoming movie Mad Max: Fury Road. The movie is scheduled to start production in July, with Theron working alongside Tom Hardy and Zoe Kravitz in Africa for the shoot.
Though the look is surely shocking, especially for an actress so well-known for her beauty, it's not the first time Charlize Theron has undergone a major transformation for a role. In fact, Monster, the 2003 film where Theron portrayed serial murderer Aileen Wuornos, was a major success, with Theron taking home several awards, including an Oscar.
She also is not alone in shaving her head for a role: Natalie Portman once did the very same thing in V for Vendetta, as did Demi Moore for G.I. Jane, both great performances. In fact, Anne Hathaway herself (also an award winner, though hers an Emmy, amongst others) has also recently shaved her head to star in Les Miserables.
Perhaps this drastic change in hairstyle bodes well for the critical acclaim of the film?
