Twilight heart-throb Robert Pattinson's fans will weep, but Ryan Gosling fans may soon be celebrating because the Drive star is the latest hunk being considered for the role of rich sexy sadist, Christian Grey. And whom does Gosling have to thank for this dubious honor? Three words: Brett Easton Ellis.
For those who don't or can't read books, Brett Easton Ellis was a sensation back in the day for writing weird, blatantly sexual, often grotesquely violent novels about the rich and snooty denizens of New York and/or L.A. Many of his books were made into films. Less Than Zero, Rules of Attraction, and the extremely controversial (for its time) American Psycho are the most memorable examples. Now, for some reason, Ellis is being considered for the director of the film version of the famous (infamous?) mommie porn novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. And, for some reason, Brett Easton Ellis wants Ryan to play Anastasia Steele's kinky boyfriend.
Although Alexander Skarsgård is still the frontrunner, "Ellis wants Gosling for his dream team." In fact, "...in a perfect world it would be Ryan Gosling as Christian Grey... David Cronenberg directing. Bret Easton Ellis writing. Ryan Gosling acting."
That's quite a dream team. The question is: Would Gosling be interested in undertaking a role that will make him the new Robert Pattison? Probably not since he already is--sort of. As for Skarsgård, the True Blood star is probably chomping at the bit to get off TV and onto the big screen. Only time will tell who will prevail.
Who would you choose?
