American Idol Phillip Phillips' family has received some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Phillips is recovering nicely from his much-needed kidney surgery. The bad news is that the family's Georgia pawn shop was broken into Tuesday night and $4000 worth of merchandise was stolen.
According to a report from TMZ, the perpetrators used a backhoe to break down the back door of the business. The backhoe was stolen from a nearby construction site.
Law enforcement officials believe both phone and power lines to the pawn shop were cut before the backhoe smashed through the back of the building.
Shortly after their son was crowned this year's American Idol, the elder Phillips announced they would be putting their pawn shop on the market. In the meantime, however, it was business as usual.
Now Phillip Phillips' family is out $4,000 worth of jewelry, antique coins, flat screen TVs and hand guns. The thief or thieves even took the cash register, but that only held about $100.
