Bones had a shortened seventh season, but the eighth is slated to also include some bonus episodes. Could these upcoming episodes be the show's last—or the last of one its stars? Some recent tweets from the lead actor of the show have left fans wondering just that.
Is David Boreanaz Going to Say Goodbye to Booth?
David Boreanaz sent out some tweets Wednesday that have led to fans wondering about the future of Booth on the Fox hit drama—and the future of the show itself. His first tweet was, "SDCC 2012 shld be a blast and quite possibly the last for ?#Bones? Farewell tour? Look forward to seeing everyone there." Next came, "Let's put this in sports terms. I'm a free agent after this season. So the Bones farewell tour is in full-swing." Finally, there was, "You must always keep your options open and ready for New challenges. The fear is the unknown and that's exciting."
That has led to speculation that season 8 could end up being its last, which would be a shame. However, since creator Hart Hanson has said that he could see the show going a couple more seasons, it does seem like any real concerns are premature. Boreanaz could always sign a new contract, meaning that there will be more of the Fox drama. It would be hard to imagine the show without him, but could it be done? Could that end up being something they seriously consider?
Back at PaleyFest, Hanson had said he was "confident" about the future of the show, including a season 9, and he already had some ideas about not only season 8, but future seasons as well. He has also said that he could see the series ending with the ninth or tenth season, so for now, it seems like while Boreanaz's tweets have gotten people talking, it doesn't necessarily mean that people should be looking at season 8 as the show's last.
