The Vampire Diaries season 3 ended with Klaus' body getting some crispiness to it and the Original in Tyler's, meaning that Michael Trevino is getting some time to play him while Joseph Morgan's future on the show is uncertain. He'll be back—he's too good to be gone for good—but the question does remain: when?
Vampire Diaries Season 4 Spoilers
Michael Trevino talked to Access Hollywood about next season of the CW drama. With Klaus in Tyler's body, Morgan's not playing the character right now, but that could change in an instant. Trevino did say, "It'd be really tough to get rid of Joseph Morgan on our show, I would imagine that he'd be back in some capacity real soon." But how soon will that be? You would imagine that it wouldn't happen right away, but that at the same time, it would probably happen at some point in the first half of the season at least. They can't have Morgan gone or Caroline and Tyler separated for too long in The Vampire Diaries season 4, right?
What will Klaus be up to while in Tyler's body? Trevino had an idea about what he could be doing: "One would assume that if you're Klaus and you're in Tyler's body, you're going to take advantage of that, and maybe make a play again at Caroline because you've been trying so hard to steal her from Tyler. I would imagine [in] the first episode something like that's gonna happen." That's pretty much exactly what you would expect to see, and after the big emotional goodbye Caroline unfortunately shared with Klaus, not Tyler, poor Caroline is going to be put through the ringer emotionally. Everyone else does have to figure out that Klaus is alive and Bonnie did that spell, and until then, Klaus can certainly have some fun and perhaps try to get what he's wanted—Caroline. But it does seem like there's no way that could end well for Klaus. That doesn't mean it will stop him from trying to change that.
So with Klaus in Tyler's body, what does that mean for Tyler? According to Trevino, "We don't know. I mean, at this point, honestly, because Klaus is in Tyler's body, we don't know what's gonna happen when Klaus gets back into his body. We don't know where Tyler's gonna be or what his fate is gonna be at that point." It seems likely that Tyler may have to deal with the consequences of some of the things Klaus does in his body, plus there is the matter of the Council still out for him and Caroline. Just because Alaric's gone doesn't mean that threat is now. He did some damage while he was around at the end of season 3.
Finally, Michael Trevino also talked about how he's approaching playing Klaus. He watched Morgan in the role and "kind of just ran with [what he saw] and sprinkled [his] own Klaus mannerisms in there." He was pretty good in the role briefly in the season 3 finale, so there doesn't seem to be any reason to worry about what he'll continue to do with the role in season 4.
