The Bachelorette has its share of drama, and a lot of the drama this season surrounding Arie Luyendyk Jr. has been behind the scenes. Emily Maynard found out during filming the season that he had once dated a producer on the series. However, Arie still managed to make it through to the final three this season, according to spoilers.
A pal of the race car driver has now spoken up to defend him, and this pal even thinks he is a perfect match for the southern belle. Kristina Owen said the following about Arie and his 'supposed' relationship with producer Cassie Lambert, according Reality TV Magazine:
"People assume it was this really intense, long-term relationship—but that's not the case. The whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. It was in 2003 so Arie was really young. She was an Indiana girl and knew a lot about racing. She drank beer and hung with the boys. But Arie told me it was never a relationship. Like I said, I've been one of his best friends for ages and I've never even heard her name until now."
It is interesting to see someone with a past connection to someone on the series. This is not the only time this has happened this season though. Charlie Grogran also admitted to knowing Emily before after he was eliminated from the season.
As for how Arie ended up on the series, it wasn't by the traditional means either. He was contacted as a reference for another contestant, and he made mention of his interest to the producers. Something happened to another guy, and Arie got the call to appear. All of it sounds like a set-up for television, but of course this is 'reality' tv.
What do you think? Will Arie end up being Emily's guy at the end of this season of The Bachelorette?
