Nothing has been decided yet as to whether NBC will pay Ann Curry the full $20 million she wants to vacate her co-host position on the Today show, but she's certainly leaving soon. It's said her farewell montage to be played the day she leaves the show is already in the works.
According to a report from TMZ, execs at NBC claim an agreement will be reached by the end of this week. A few days ago, it was reported that Curry would be gone by the end of the week, but now it doesn't sound like things are moving quite that quickly.
Curry has served as co-anchor of the Today show alongside Matt Lauer since Meredith Vieira stepped down, but now she's being forced out by higher-ups. One thing that has been established, however, is that Ann Curry wants to leave the network. At first it was reported she would take a little time off and then return to NBC as an international correspondent. Now it seems she wants out completely—but it's what else she wants that's apparently causing problems.
Curry was offered $10 million up front to vacate the position as co-anchor. However, with two years left in her contract, she believes she is owed the full $20 million. Do you think Ann Curry will sue NBC if they terminate her contract but don't pay up the full amount? It certainly sounds as though she should.
It's still up in the air as to whether Savannah Guthrie or Hoda Kotb will fill Ann's shoes. Different media outlets have reported that each is a shoe-in for the job.
So it sounds like lots of decisions are in the works regarding Ann and the future of the Today show co-host. Matt Lauer is secured in his spot since they paid him big bucks to stay with the network. Now it seems Ann simply wants what she believes she's owed.
Do you think Ann will get her $20 million? Who do you think will replace her? And will you tune in on her final day to watch the montage that's quickly being put together right now?
