Katie Holmes has made a very bold move by filing for divorce from Tom Cruise. The man is a force in Hollywood, but his dealings with the Church of Scientology are also well-known. He is one of the higher-ranking members in the society that is often compared to a cult. Whether that is true or not is really a matter of opinion, but there is no doubt Tom feels quite strongly about the teaching of L. Ron Hubbard.
The restrictive practices most likely played a role in Katie's decision to file for a divorce. An act that is frowned upon in Scientology. Katie has probably been deemed a "suppressive person" by Scientologists and will be ostracized by the community. According to the so-called religion, anybody who leaves the church is banished, meaning Tom Cruise would not be allowed to have any future dealings with Katie should he choose to stay a member.
In the weeks leading up to the divorce, clearly everybody knew something was up. Tom's people are claiming he was blindsided, but was he really? According to sources close to Katie, she is convinced she has been stalked by members of Scientology.
Surprisingly enough, the throng of paparazzi that follow her every move, can vouch for her paranoid rantings. The extremely secretive group hates when members leave and blab about the inner workings of the religion and are obviously a little concerned by Katie's defection.
Of course, there is the possibility the two high-end cars that have been spotted around Katie Holmes could actually be members of the press. TMZ notes there is definitely one publication tailing Katie, but would they be driving a Cadillac Escalade or a Mercedes?
Whatever the case may be, Katie definitely has a lot on her plate right now. This case will become messy, but you can bet Tom Cruise will use his influence to keep as much of it as private as possible. His career is already tanking and being portrayed as a raving lunatic certainly would not help it.
