According to a statement made by sheriff J.D. "Doug" Doughtie, Andy Griffith died this morning. He states that Griffith passed away at his home on Roanoke Island in Dare County, North Carolina this morning at around 7:00 a.m. Griffith was 86 years old. While Griffith has lived a long life, his family and friends must be devastated. It is always a sad day when the passing of a well-known figure is reported.
Griffith's wife, Cindi, said that he had a "strong Christian faith and was prepared for the day he would be called Home to his Lord." That is wonderful news for the family, as they can rest easy knowing that Griffith is with his beloved Lord and Savior.
It is reported that Griffith was battling an unspecified illness and that he has been laid to rest. Hopefully, the family got a chance to say some final goodbyes before Griffith went Home to meet his Maker. If he has already been laid to rest, the family had to have known that Griffith would pass soon, as it is highly unlikely they could have made arrangements this fast without knowing.
Andy Griffith didn't make an impact only on the entertainment industry. He also made an impact on the United States. President George W. Bush awarded Griffith with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. It certainly isn't every day that you find a man in the entertainment industry who gets such a high honor.
Griffith's presence will be missed by many. Prayers are likely going out from around the world to his family and friends.
