Jena Malone will likely play Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. So is she a solid choice to play the witty, axe-wielding tribute that strips down in front of Katniss?
Jena most recently starred in the History Channel miniseries Hatfields & McCoys, which focused on the famous feud between two real Appalachian families. It's kind of fitting that she might be cast as a tribute f
rom a District whose principal industry is timber since one of the families' many fights was over timber rights. Johanna's axe definitely could have been used as a weapon back then if there weren't any guns or knives around.
Jena Malone definitely has had plenty of experience with bloody battles - in addition to playing a tough bad girl involved in America's worst family feud, she had to get in tip-top shape to play one of the badass babes in Sucker Punch. So because of these physically-demanding roles, there's probably no one better to star as Johanna Mason in Catching Fire. It is also easy to imagine her and Jennifer Lawrence butting heads and later bonding since they both have a tough, tomboyish quality about them.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jena Malone has been offered the role and is in early negotiations for the part. Since Catching Fire will likely be a box office success, it's hard to imagine her letting the role go. So she'll most likely be Johanna Mason.
So what do you think - is Jena the best actress for the part, or do you think that someone else would have been better?
