The Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise split has friends of the latter wondering if another divorce will turn Cruise into box office poison. The answer is they probably don't have to worry. After all, this isn't Tom's first divorce or public split. He's working on ex-wife number three. Katie follows actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman.
There was also a long-term relationship between Tom and actress Penelope Cruz. Although it never made it to marriage, it didn't end well either. It seems Cruise is lucky when it comes to finding women. He just can't seem to hold on to them.
Some believe that's because hunky Tom is actually gay. There's really nothing to support that assumption, but so what if he was? It's not like being gay still carries the same penalties it once did. There are dozens of gay actors who do very well for themselves.
Other people say it's more likely that Tom's religion -- Scientology -- is just too weird for his women to fully endorse. They may put up with it for a while, but they can't embrace it like he does. That certainly appears as one reason Katie Holmes is filing for divorce from Tom. She doesn't want their daughter raised in the Scientology religion.
A few say it's because Tom is far too controlling. While that didn't seem the case with his two former wives or Cruz, it certainly was with Katie. She was reportedly looking forward to a Dawson's Creek reunion. That is until her husband put the brakes on, saying she couldn't do the project. Plus, there's the fact that Katie remained behind the scenes for most of their marriage.
While Tom experienced a few hiccups during the divorce year of his various marriages, he always recovered. He will again. However, maybe it's because of the type of pictures Cruise now makes. He may have begun with romantic comedies, but Tom is now much more of an action star. Fans will continue to flock to see him pull off a crazy stunt or two, divorce or no divorce.
