Despite recent engagement rumors, Soul Food actress Nia Long revealed she and basketball star Ime Udoka aren't getting married any time soon. Although the criticism about the couple having baby Kez out of wedlock sometimes bothers her, she insisted that marriage isn't the right thing for them right now.
It's actually an increasing trend in the celebrity world for couples with children together to hold off on tying the knot. Look at Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson or even Snooki and Jionni LaValle. You don't see people throwing mass fits because they aren't married. Apparently, it's more socially acceptable for them since they have declared their intentions to say "I do" one day.
"I'll be at home with my man, having a perfectly loving time, and I'll see all these comments on some site about how wrong I am for not being married," Nia said. "I don't feel less loved or less loving because I'm not married." It's true, marriage isn't necessary to prove a couple's love, and, if they're okay with the nature of their relationship, others should just stay out of their business.
Nia Long and Ime Udoka aren't hell bent on not walking down the aisle. Nia just seems to be a little disillusioned with the institution of marriage. "I've never seen a marriage work," she noted. Regardless of Nia and Ime's relationship status, the couple seems to be doing great and loving parenthood. In reality, that's all that really matters.
