Kate Holmes will spill private details concerning her divorce from Tom Cruise to Elle magazine in its upcoming August issue. Holmes will also be featured on the issue's cover, looking beautiful, if not a little fierce.
Some of the somewhat catty moments in the exclusive interview with Katie offer some telling insights in to what may have been the cause for the couple's break. One can almost hear Holmes bristle at some of the questions being asked, clearly manifesting an undertone of wanting to establish herself as an individual outside of Tom's, uh, protection.
Of her soon-to-be former husband of five years: "He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years. I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that."
On whether being Cruise's spouse helped to establish herself in her career: "Things are not handed to anyone. If anything, you work a little bit harder when you're in such visible circumstances."
And on being in her 30's, perhaps the most telling of all the sound bites regarding the new direction in which Katie Holmes will now be heading without Cruise: "I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I feel sexier. I think in my twenties - it's like you're trying too hard to figure everything out...I'm starting to come into my own. It's like a new phase."
As if these responses were not enough, Elle photographer Carter Smith also had this to say about Katie's overall sentiment concerning her marriage with Cruise:
"Katie didn't speak about Tom in a lovey-dovey way at all. She deflected the Tom questions and brought them around to herself."
Trapped no more, Katie Holmes appears more than ready to step outside of Mr. Cruise's twisted sovereignty.
