Pippa Middleton, sister of the Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, ordered custom-made shoes from Portugal for the Royal Wedding last year. So did Carole, Kate Middleton's mother. It has taken royal-watchers a while to find out exactly where Duchess Catherine's family got the bespoke high heels in question, but now everyone wants a pair like them. Sales in Britain, especially, have skyrocketed. It's not so much the individual styles catching on, but that the fashion world has noticed Portugal has developed a great shoe industry, reports the Portugal News.
Lady Gaga frequently wears Helsar brand shoes from Portugal—the same label Carole and Pippa Middleton chose. Sales are up as much as 47% in some areas. The surge is not enough, on its own, to save a floundering economy, but every bit helps. Helsar has become a leading shoe manufacturer, in a country now world-famous for shoes.
And it seems that factories are especially open to providing private label shoes. Check your favorite store brand, for the Made in Portugal slogan.
Before the wedding, Pippa Middleton was not accustomed to having her clothing scrutinized by the press. Now she is. She had never been hounded by paparazzi for pics of the latest look or to having the labels on her clothing published world-wide. Now that happens all the time.
There is no immediate word on how often Pippa Middleton may have recycled the wedding shoes, or how many other Helsar shoes she owns. But the "Pippa effect", even without a Kate Middleton endorsement, has a strength of its own.
