Did Tom Cruise verbally abuse Katie Holmes to the point that she had to end their marriage? That seems to be the cover story from at least one tabloid. That's right, the National Enquirer is exploiting this as a way to sell a few papers.
The thing is, was Tom Cruise really the "living nightmare" that the gossip rag claims that he is? It is no surprise that Cruise and the Church of Scientology are an easy scapegoat for their reported "relentless verbal abuse, emotional punishment, humiliation and intimidation."
The "inside" source even went so far as to claim that "Katie was almost treated like a battered wife."
Thanks to Gossip Cop and an ounce of common sense, it is easy to see that this story is a fabrication. Though it is pretty clear through legitimate sources that Katie Holmes left Tom Cruise because they disagreed on bringing up Suri Cruise as a Scientologist, there is no real sign of abuse, physical or verbal.
Then again, fans may never know the real story about Tom and Katie's marriage. The real answer probably lies somewhere between the verbal abuse allegations and a rosy, amicable divorce.
