Kate Middleton has landed her first fashion magazine cover after some of the biggest publications tried in vain to get the Duchess of Cambridge to pose. South Africa's Marie Claire boasts a picture of a perfectly posed Kate on the cover of their August issue. There is just one little problem. The picture is a fake.
Somebody got pretty crafty with Photoshop and pasted Kate's head onto a model's body. It would take a trained eye to be able to tell the cover is a complete phony. The counterfeit Kate is wearing a brilliant patterned dress by South African designer, Cliver Rundle. Now do you see the method to their madness. If you can't get the real deal, fake it.
The magazine really pushes the boundaries with the headline, "Fashion's new royal icon wears SA's best local designers." Obviously, somebody is hoping to cash in on Catherine Middleton's Midas touch. No one can accuse the magazine of completely misleading the unsuspecting public. In small print at the bottom of the cover, there is a disclaimer of sorts, "Of course she doesn't. But she should."
Editors are getting away with using Kate Middleton's image by referring to the pictures as "fan-art." Apparently, the magazine is filled with plenty of fake Kates posing in a variety of outfits from different designers. To be fair, the dress is very pretty and looks great with Kate's head.
Is it totally outrageous and unfair for Marie Claire to pull a fast one or is it all in good fashion fun?
