Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato No Longer "Close"

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato used to have a lot in common back in their Disney days, but those days are long gone. Demi and Selena made very different choices in life and those choices apparently came between their friendship. Selena has managed to maintain a fairly clean, good-girl image, while her old friend got into a bit of trouble. She has since recovered and become a role model for teen girls, but her life has changed.

In a new interview with Self magazine, Demi opens up about her troubles and how she copes. She admits everyday is a new battle, but has learned how to deal with her problems. Demi explains one of the ways she keeps focused, "I make time for myself and meditate." In the world of celebrity, that is probably the biggest key to keeping your head on straight. A celebrity's life is so packed, they often lose themselves and try to overcompensate with drugs and alcohol, or in Demi's case, cutting.

Another key to Demi's recovery is surrounding herself with positive influences who are intent on looking out for her best interests. The "Skyscaper" singer explains, "My friends and I look out for each other." Unfortunately, one of those friends is no longer fellow Disney darling, Selena Gomez. The two are not enemies by any means, but Demi says, "Selena and I aren't as close as we used to be, but she'll always have a place in my heart."

Selena and Demi were both very young when their friendship started. It is not uncommon for people to change and grow apart, especially during the teen years. Selena is pretty caught up with boyfriend, Justin Bieber, and her own career.

Demi has forged a fast friendship with her fellow X Factor judge, Britney Spears. Britney and Demi have a lot in common and can probably offer each other a lot of support. Demi Lovato certainly seems dedicated to remaining on the straight and narrow and can hopefully maintain her image as a responsible role model.
