Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were quite the item at the recent opening celebration of her and her sisters Khloe and Kourtney's new Dash store on Melrose Boulevard in Hollywood. But her rapper beau wasn't her only buzz-worthy statement; Kim dressed to impress in an ultra-chic, curve-hugging navy blue Givenchy number that was favored just a week prior by another in-the-spotlight entertainer, Rihanna.
The Barbadian beauty and the Armenian diva are both provocative in their own ways (RiRi for her racy Twitter posts and her tumultuous relationship with Chris Brown; and Kim for her Keeping up with the Kardashians reality show antics, her divorce from Kris Humphries and her romance with West), and they certainly share a tendency to step out in statement-making ensembles.
But while the "Birthday Cake" songstress sometimes opts for edgy and overly revealing looks that venture past the realm of good taste, Kim more often than not goes for a more sophisticated vibe while still showing off her curves in figure-hugging silhouettes.
So it comes as a bit of a shock to see both stars in the same frock that had Rihanna dressing in an uncharacteristically demure fashion and Kim Kardashian channeling the more subtle side of her style.
RiRi opted to don the designer dress for her grandmother's funeral in New York City. It was a rather uncharacteristic move for the skin-baring singer, but given the occasion, a smart one on her behalf. And she actually looked far sexier than when she shows off way too much. Her hair was equally chic, piled atop her head in a bun and featuring a heavy fringe bang.
Even though Kardashian had a fab accessory by her side in Kanye West and a glam swept-back hairstyle and another sweet accoutrement in her Mason Loves Penelope pendant necklace at the Dash opening, RiRi has to win this fashion face-off, seen here at Hollywood Life, if only because her transformation was so extreme from those ubiquitous see-through tops and super-short hot pants.
