Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been added to the long list of celebrities who became unwitting victims in the News of the World phone hacking scandal. If you haven't heard of the scandal, it involved a British tabloid using private investigators and other sneaky means to hack into celebrity's phones and listen to the voicemail. This happened back in 2000 and carried on throughout 2006.
That timeframe was right in the beginning of Brad and Angie's relationship. Back then, their relationship attracted a great deal of attention, and those voice mails would have been pretty valuable, if they had, in fact, been intercepted and listened to. Think of those "sources" and other leaks that manage to make headlines on some of the more disreputable tabloids. It is entirely likely the hacked voice mails fueled some of those reports.
Jude Law and his now ex-girlfriend Sienna Miller are a couple of the celebrities who were hacked. They have received compensation for the hacking, which means Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will probably get some cash as well. Considering it is all in the past, and the Hollywood power couple is not exactly short on funds, hopefully they will donate any award they get to a deserving charity.
