Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham dished recently on some pretty heavy subjects. It seems depression and suicide are topics she knows a great deal about--from personal experiences.
According to a report from Hollywood Life, it was during a recent interview to promote her new book My Teenage Dream Ended that Farrah talked about her life following the birth of her daughter Sophia. She admits to being so depressed that she turned first to alcohol and drugs, but ultimately believed the only way out of her depression was suicide.
"I figured I would drown myself in the bathtub — that seemed like the easiest way to go," she said. "'All I could think about was killing myself."
The Teen Mom star was just 16 when she became pregnant with Sophia. She says the depression was at its worst when Sophia was a toddler.
"When I drank, I'd be happy for 10 minutes," she said. "When I got high, I'd feel a sense of nothingness for about an hour. But in the end, my negative emotions always came rushing back."
Wisely, Farrah sought help for her depression and she never attempted suicide. Even today she still sees a therapist and takes medication for her depression symptoms. Thank goodness she got the help she so desperately needed.
Hopefully Farrah Abraham's book will show other young women in similar situations that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Imagine how inspiring it would be to the Teen Mom if her words helped save someone else from the despair she experienced.
