Summer's hottest read, 50 Shades of Grey, has also become one of Hollywood's most heated topics--that is, aside from the recent Kristen Stewart cheating scandal with Rupert Sanders. Of course, the fact that Stewart and her maybe ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson were once favored among many to portray the respective roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the film adaptation only adds fuel to the fire.
Some book clubs may be upping their provocative factor with E.L. James' risqué and erotic tome, with the girl-centric gatherings dishing out potluck dinners with a side of S&M, as Rihanna might sing it. And celebrities are also gathering around the water cooler to discuss the page-turner--and whisper about just who should land those Steele and Grey parts.
Ian Somerhalder's name has been used time and again in reference to the 50 Shades flick, and he's fine with that. "I absolutely would be up for [playing Christian Grey in the movie]. I have the book and I just started reading it. That would be a pretty incredible thing and hopefully that could pan out. Yes, beyond a shadow of a doubt I think that would be a phenomenal opportunity," The Vampires Diaries hunk said, as Entertainmentwise confirms. However, it seems rather unlikely at this point that he'll land the main role, with all the chatter about other potential male leads.
And Ryan Seacrest definitely won't be Grey, but that hasn't stopped the multi-hyphenate host from sharing his unhindered enthusiasm for the novel. "I'm obsessed. I'm past the bathtub scene, so I'm making progress. It's fascinating to see something like that capture the zeitgeist and also it's really interesting to read. And I'm using it as a manual. I think it can be a study book for a lot of people," he (hopefully) half-joked.
As for the girls, Whitney Port has posted, "Entranced in 50 Shades of Grey. Geez!" Victoria Beckham and Angelina Jolie have reportedly jumped on the sultry book's bandwagon. And Tulisa is just concerned with letting everyone know she was one of the early adopters, as Entertainmentwise reports. "I was one of the first people to get onto the 50 Shades hype. My makeup artist introduced me to the book... I started reading it and just became obsessed."
Of course, not all bold names have picked up the brash book. Khloe Kardashian recently denounced her desire to flip through the pages. Kate Beckinsale has resisted the read. And Blake Lively famously admitted a while back that she had not even heard of James' bestseller. Amidst a sea of fans--both in the celebrity-verse and not--who have been captivated by the, ahem, colorful book, it's kind of cool to have a few stars who are just seeing the world through black and white--and not Grey.
