Is there something The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth has that Twilight star Taylor Lautner doesn't have? And don't say Miley Cyrus, because that doesn't count. Liam recently beat Taylor out of a big role in the film The Expendables 2, and fans are wondering exactly why that happened.
According to a report from Hollywood Life, it wasn't even a case of Liam necessarily being a better actor than Taylor Lautner, at least not in the auditions for The Expendables 2, anyway. But Taylor's recent film Abduction did poorly, and that cost him the role instead.
"Taylor was initially going to get the role in The Expendables 2, but his film Abduction did so poorly in the box office [it only grossed $28 million domestically] and critically that they chose Liam instead," a source says.
The film industry is a
big business. And as much as producers would often love to give these roles to the best actor or their favorite actor or someone who really, really deserves the role, they are stuck instead giving it to the actor who will generate the most money.
Right now Liam Hemsworth is a huge commodity. His success in The Hunger Games was phenomenal, so while he's a fresh, positive face in the film industry, the producers for The Expendables 2 grabbed him and planted him firmly in what was to be Taylor Lautner's place.
Hopefully there are no bad feelings between the two young actors. They've both been around long enough to know that in Hollywood the money talks and just about everything else takes that dreaded walk.
