When it comes to drama, Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra rarely have any to deal with (except when it comes to their families). So, it is hard to believe that the Teen Mom couple could ever stir up controversy, but while doing a speaking engagement in Tennessee, that is exactly what happened.
Many of the girls from the show travel the country to tell their stories. Most focus on how hard it is to be a young teen parent. However, since Catelynn and Tyler gave their daughter, Carly, up for adoption, a lot of their talks revolve around that. Recently, they made an appearance at Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School in Nashville, Tennessee, but their public speaking engagement ended up being closed off because the Principal of the school didn't want "that kind of story" being told.
The Tennessean did a write up on the incident and falsely claimed that Catelynn and Tyler (along with the organization Decisions, Choices and Options) focus only on abstinence and adoption and that the organization's agenda includes faith. Obviously, since Catelynn and Tyler have first hand experience with adoption, they are able to provide accurate information to teens who can relate better to the reality show stars (who are very down to earth) as opposed to adults. Just because they are talking about adoption, it doesn't mean they are pushing that one option on anyone.
After seeing the article, Catelynn left a very strongly worded message via Tyler's Facebook account saying (in part):
I have seen many great things that her foundation has done. Descions Choices and Options has helped MANY Teens in a crisis pregnancy, it has taught teens to be educated about sex, its helped teens realize that they need to stay young, stay in school, and get their education, and get the FACTS on every option with out opinion based information. This WHOLE article disgusts me because I KNOW the great things Joi is trying to do and this article is trying to make her look bad! Its wrong and people need to look into her program and see that she is trying to make a differnce in her community!
It is great that Catelynn Lowell stood up for the organization and the message that it conveys. It is a shame that the message could have in anyway been misconstrued, but luckily, Catelynn set the record straight!
