Although Basketball Wives' Evelyn Lozada and Miami Dolphins star Chad Johnson (Ochocinco) seemed like a blissfully happy couple just weeks ago at their wedding, everything went downhill fast Saturday night during an incident of domestic violence. Evelyn reportedly found a receipt for condoms in Chad's vehicle, inciting a fight that resulted in an approximately 3-inch laceration on Lozada's forehead, requiring medical treatment.
The incident also had dire consequences for both of their careers. The Miami Dolphins released Chad, and the couple's planned reality TV show Ev & Ocho has been shelved. Although neither Evelyn nor Chad is a stranger to a drama-filled life, Saturday night will have a lasting effect on their lives and may even signal the end of their short marriage.
According to the police reports, a he said/she said situation arose regarding the injuries. Both Evelyn and Chad admit that her injury was the result of a head-butt, but they both claim the other precipitated it. Head-butting isn't typically a woman's first thought as a way of inflicting harm, but it is within the realm of possibility...
Chad remains tight-lipped about the incident to the media, but Evelyn has now come forward with a statement:
It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I'm grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
Clearly, Evelyn Lozada is staying fast to her original account of events and wishes to make a stand against domestic violence. If, in fact, Chad Johnson attacked Evelyn when his extramarital activities were discovered, Evelyn will hopefully move on from that relationship and look into getting an annulment. There are far too many problems with a man so eager to cheat and then physically lash out upon his infidelity's discovery to fix.
