One Direction crooner Niall Horan flew to his homeland of Ireland to welcome home Olympic gold medalist John Joe Nevin. A special celebration in Mullingar was held in honor of the boxer, and Niall was there to celebrate, too.
According to a report from Irish Central, Niall was at the London Olympics during some of Nevin's fights.
"I was at three o
f his fights. It was the only thing I was at. He is such a legend," Horan said. "I grew up across the road from him. I've known him all my life."
It must have been especially exciting for Niall when he—along with One Direction mates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik—sang their hit song What Makes You Beautiful during the Olympics closing ceremonies. Realizing that someone he knew well had won a gold medal during the games likely made his being there even more special.
