Lindsay Lohan isn't facing jail time as of yet. Despite being a suspect in a recent jewel heist, it seems the fiery redhead has escaped the law yet again. The L.A. district attorney isn't filing charges in the case.
Earlier this week, Ms. Lohan became the prime suspect in the theft of $100,000 worth of jewels and sunglasses from a house where she was a guest. However, her proximity to the items doesn't automatically make the starlet guilty and the D.A. recognizes this.
It seems one suspect sort of admitted something got taken. However, he or she didn't offer any specifics. The fact that some of the suspects got spotted in a car similar to the one seen around at the time of the burglary seems to offer nothing in the way of proof either. The evidence isn't strong enough to make prosecution stick. Additionally, the victims of the heist don't want to press charges. In fact, they now claim that nothing got taken. That pretty much ties the police's hands in the matter.
Lindsay's representative says the star is happy the matter is over. She has lots of projects in the works on the way to her career comeback. He had this to say about the media's seeming conviction of the Liz and Dick star. "It is unfortunate that many media outlets were quick to point fingers and jump to conclusions without having all the facts."
He is right, of course. The media do seem ready to cry "guilty" when it comes to Lindsay Lohan and crime. However, there is a reason for that. Lindsay has proven herself dishonest by lying to the police in the past. In fact, she's still under investigation for lying to them about an accident that occurred this summer. She claimed she wasn't driving her car when it rear-ended a truck. That's despite some evidence to the contrary.
If Lindsay wants respect and equal treatment, she'll have to earn it back. After all, she's the one who put her reputation in jeopardy in the first place. She, unfortunately, is paying the price for her indiscretions.
