The Fifty Shades of Grey movie's female frontrunner, Emma Watson has revealed that she's amenable to playing the coveted role of Anastasia Steele, but there's a catch. The Harry Potter starlet reportedly wants to play Ana only to Ryan Gosling's Christian Grey.
Of course, there's been a lot of talk recently about casting Emma Watson as the well-educated yet clueless virgin who falls into a sick--er--unusual love affair with the preternaturally handsome, unimaginably wealthy yet seriously pathological Mr. Grey. And the Perks of Being a Wallflower actress's name has been paired with those of some equally famous potential leading men. Among them are such disparately gifted actors as Zac Efron, Matt Bomer, and the Vampire Diaries' heart-throb, Ian Somerhalder, with whom Watson appears briefly in an unofficial 50 Shades of Grey trailer.
In a recent STV.TV interview La Watson insisted she was flattered that her fans wanted her to win the "Ana" role. And her BFF and "Wallflower" co-star Nina Dobrev recently revealed that Emma has said "she would reportedly be far more interested if Ryan Gosling were to be cast as Christian Grey." That's quite interesting and potentially problematic since La Dobrev's boyfriend is none other than Ian Somerhalder.
Of course in the ever-changing game of 50 Shades of Grey casting speculation, it's hard to know what's true and what is simply wishful thinking. A July report maintained that Watson was negotiating to play the female lead in the movie version of E.L. James's "mommie porn" tome with producers Dana Brunetti and Michael de Luca. The following week, Emma denied the rumors. Now, two months later, she's reportedly itching to star in the film as long as she can act opposite Gosling.
"She's laughing, a bit nervously, as I'm sure everyone was when they first read those books," said Dobrev, "but she'd want to do it if Ryan [Gosling] was going to be Christian. I guess that's all it takes."
Corroborating La Dobrev's claims is a recent tweet from Ryan Seacrest.
"@EmWatson told me that she'd be more interested in playing Ana in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie if Ryan Gosling were to be Christian," Ryan wrote. "#mugglelove."
So, there you have it. Only time will tell who will win the coveted roles. But in the meantime, do you think Emma Watson and Ryan Gosling would make a good pairing as Anastasia and Christian?
