Nina Dobrev is definitely enjoying quite a few perks right now. Not only is she busy with her lead role on The CW hit series The Vampire Diaries (premiering October 11 at 8pm/7c) but she's also busy promoting her new film The Perks of Being a Wallflower costarring Emma Watson and Paul Rudd (in theaters September 21).
In the October issue of Seventeen, the 23-year-old actress spoke with Ashley Mateo about her character in Perks, her relationship with her TVD costar Ian Somerhalder, and the importance of staying true to herself.
In The Perks of Being a Wallflower, she plays a high school student who's in an abusive relationship. This is undoubtedly a big departure from Elena Gilbert, her character on The Vampire Diaries. Although she admits that the issue of abusive relationships is "a really heavy topic," she's already proven that she has the acting talent to play such a complex role.
In the interview, she said that she hopes her character in the film, "gives girls some perspective...I hope girls will see her situation and learn from it." And hopefully audiences will not only enjoy the film but also do just that.
But what readers and fans really want to know about is her real-life relationship with Ian Somerhalder right? She says the key to a successful relationship is "the continuation of a friendship." She says that she and Ian are "friends first and foremost."
But how does this successful and talented young woman stay grounded off-screen? She spends a lot of time with her friends and TVD costars Kayla Ewell, Candice Accola and Kat Graham. Critics may admire her for her devotion to her craft. But her devotion to her friends is yet another reason why she's a great role model for young women. She's one hundred percent right when she says, "Even though you're growing up, you should never stop having fun."
This is great advice and it shows that she's not only beautiful, but intelligent as well. After reading this interview, it's easy to see why Nina Dobrev has so many fans. The issue also includes some lovely photographs of the actress by photographer Yu Tsai.
The October 2012 issue of Seventeen also features affordable fall fashions, and advice on how to get clear skin for the rest of your life.
If you're a fan of The Vampire Diaries, you won't want to pass up this issue!
