Fifty Shades of Grey has truly captured the imagination of the nation--perhaps even of the entire civilized world. And the proof of E.L. James' mommie porn novel's position as an official global phenomenon lies in the rather amazing fact that the President of the United States and the First Lady are talking about it. That's right. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are actually familiar with the controversial book.
Although, both the POTUS and his missus recently admitted that they hadn't personally read the book, they were certainly aware of its existence, and they reportedly knew a lot more about it than they did "only weeks ago." And how was this amazing fact revealed to the world at large. It all started when Mr. Obama revealed to Entertainment Tonight's Nancy O'Dell that his wife "usually falls asleep pretty early in the night." O'Dell's rather bizarre advice was to give Mrs. Obama a copy of 50 Shades of Grey. Although Michelle lamented that she hasn't had time to do much reading lately, she's aware of the novel's existence and she know's what it's about--basically.
"I think everyone has heard what Fifty Shades of Grey is about," the First Lady said.
As for the president's opinion? Although he'd heard about the novel, he wasn't quite sure what all the fuss was about and why it's become so popular with women.
"I honestly don't know that. I'll have to ask Michelle when I get back home," he mused, adding: "I'm just glad that folks are entertained."
So, there you have it. The leader of the free world and his wife are now familiar with the concept of 50 Shades of Grey even though they haven't read it--yet.
Wonder if they'll rush right out and buy a copy. Perhaps they already have.
