Kanye West created a remix of Chief Keef's song, "I Don't Like". That put him on the map as "rap's next big thing." He signed a record deal this past June with Interscope records. He's been rubbing elbows with rap superstars such as T.I., Young Jeezy, and Soulja Boy.
This kid became famous from a video of he and his friends smoking weed and waving around a hand gun. Yet another example of Kanye West's poor judgement. He should have left this kid right where he found him, in the Chicago hood.
Of course, that wouldn't bring back Joseph Coleman, also known as "Lil Jojo". Coleman was killed on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 in a drive-by shooting. Chief Keef is a member of the Black Disciples gang. Coleman had ties to a rival gang, Gangster Disciples. Keef and Coleman made "attacks" on each other in their rap music videos. Coleman had a video called "3HunnaK" where he waves around a gun while rapping "BDK" (Black Disciple Killer).
Within a few hours of Coleman's murder, Keef tweeted Keef tweeted, "HahahahahhahahahahahahahaahhAAHAHAHAHA #RichN--S--t" and then "Its Sad Cuz Dat N-- Jojo Wanted to Be Jus Like Us #LMAO." The tweets don't make him guilty but they do show the young rapper's insensitivity to murder.
If he is guilty, he almost seems to be taunting the police by posting everything online such as in this tweet about snitches and a comment that mentions "3Hunna". Keef even went so far earlier on Monday night to post a picture of himself receiving oral sex, with money in the picture too, of course. Cash and hoes, right?
Why is rap synonymous with violence? It's bad enough that immoral behavior is rewarded with a big paycheck and a starring role on a reality TV show, but when it comes to murder, why are these kids signed to record deals? Kanye knew this kid was bad news when he was waving around a gun in the video that got him noticed. Why give him fame and money as a reward for his criminal behavior?
Money and fame will not turn a 16-year-old, pistol-waving, pot-smoking delinquent into a good citizen. Instead it made him think he's invincible. Maybe Coleman would be alive today, maybe he wouldn't. But, Keef's Twitter account should be shut down so at the very least, he loses one public outlet for his filth.
