Lady Gaga is hitting back at the critics who have called her fat and claimed she is packing on the pounds. She is curvier than she was six months ago and has admitted to gaining about 25 pounds. However, she is certainly not fat. It is hard to remember celebrities are human too and words can hurt them.
Gaga is using her own story to get a very important and valuable message out to her Little Monsters. On her own social networking site, Mother Monster posted a series of photos that will set the record straight about her weight gain.
In the photos, Gaga wears a yellow bra and underwear. She captioned the pictures, "Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15." As she shows off her body in different angles, she reveals, "But today I join the BODY REVOLUTION. To Inspire Bravery. And BREED some m$therf**king COMPASSION." Her courageous gesture has already inspired her followers to strip down and show their bodies and those little imperfections everybody has.
Instead of feeling insecure, Lady Gaga is encouraging her fans to embrace their bodies, flaws and all. She knows how much power she wields and her response to the criticism is crucial. If she drops too much weight, she will only encourage the ridiculous body standards Hollywood continues to shove down the public's throat. She is letting the world know she isn't a perfect size 0 and she is still beautiful and successful.
What a healthy approach to such nasty criticism. You can look at the pictures of the singer and see for yourself. She is not overweight. She is a healthy, fit woman who has curves. Society is the problem, not Gaga or the millions of other men and women who do not fit the supermodel mold.

I have great sympathy, but over the past 3 years she, more than anyone else, has ramped up the nudity factor, showing more flesh, and at that, being airbrushed and skinny in all videos and in print, wholeheartedly through her career. As can be seen from comparing her career trajectory and look before and after Nicola Formichetti began dressing her (essentially, Stefani Germanotta vs Lady Gaga) it is THESE outfits which get our attention and keep her in the spotlight - without them a majority of us would not have heard of her. So she has not only embodied, but propelled and perpetuated the status quo of thin, nude women in pop; importantly, it is THAT image that has been central to her celebrity, and is the main reason we know her name. By her perpetuation and glorification of the thin stereotype (from her tweets about not eating to the imagery in the videos) being so central to her success, she is now sort of at the mercy of that very beast she capitulated to for her success.
